A representative of Stern notices, that neither the administration, nor the management of school did not see the petition, though they know that students of part-time would like to get more effective recruiting.
Status searchers
The conflict in Stern is only reflexion of the general tendency dominating at all business schools.
Ever less companies agree to pay fantastic sums for training of the employees at prestigious schools and as result, the increasing quantity of part-time MBA pay for themselves. It is not surprising, that they wish to get the same advantages, as students of full-time, in particular, to take part in recruiting in school territory.
Earlier all were happy: students of part-time were allowed to pass an interview in a campus. The situation was spoiled by recruiters, which noticed, that they are dissatisfied with preparation and ambitions of students of part-time.
As recruiters say, preparation is much worse than one of students of full-time, hence, is insufficient to be hired. Thus there too much ambitions - only insignificant percent of students of part-time agree for roles of ordinary subordinates.
Stern tried to find a compromise. Approximately two years ago school's doors have opened for Career Center for Working Professionals (CCWP) which has allowed the working students training on the part-time program, to receive the qualified help in search of more prestigious work. With opening of the centre, the doors behind which interviews in a campus are spent, were definitively closed for students of part-time.
Money
They also have caused the greatest indignation of students. One of them, who wished to remain anonymous, marks: «Let us give a chance to show the resume to employers at least. We pay the same money, as well as students of full-time so why are possibilities not identical?»
Basically, he is right. Students of part-time pay even more, the time of their training is longer. However Gram Richmond, one of the founders of Clear Admit - consulting firm for MBA, declares, that 65-80 % of students of part-time all the same get sponsor's support.
Considering this fact, it is unfair to let such students pass an interview in a campus, in relation to the companies which pay for them.
New rules
Students of part-time in Chicago now share complaints of their New York colleagues. Earlier in two campuses there passed simultaneously two processes of selection of employees of the prestigious companies - for students of full-time and for students of part-time.
However the discontent of recruiters every year grew, who didn't wish to loaf from one place to another. To calm the recruiters, the school had to leave recruiting only for students of full-time.
Students of part-time though can take part in interview, but now they have the right to apply only for a permanent job - about training even to think is impossible. They also should correspond academically to the colleagues trained on the program of full-time MBA.
Plus - passage of corresponding training in career services and granting of proofs became necessary that students do not work and do not receive the financial help from any company, or their employer is not against their active search of a new place of work. |
