Evolution of Mini-MBA programs Print E-mail

From the moment of starting up of courses of business administration in the beginning of 1900 years and especially last two decades MBA programs varied constantly.

Launching of the courses "Mini MBA" which are shorter twice in comparison with classical courses became the most considerable innovation. This innovation became a consequence of nowadays speeds on which the companies and the countries are developing under the influence of information and digital technologies. Many Head Managers can not afford themselves leaving their jobs to study for 2-3 years at standard courses, thus requirements to quality of courses constantly grow.    "Mini MBA" became the present reality for many people: duration of training is about 1 year, the intension and quality of the program remained at former level and constantly improve, training cost has been decreased. Many Head Managers already have estimated the advantages of such "advanced" form of training and recommend it for modern businessmen and managers as an optimum variant of vocational training.

All began with two-year MBA program. Its popularity grew, and many people did not think of alternative variants at all. Then an alternative appeared - it was expected very strongly by managers and the sponsored companies. It was followed by part-time program - for arrogant people who can combine work with training. And at last Mini-MBA program appeared on the market.
The popular tendency at first has captured Europe where business schools like INSEAD began to offer intensive, but short-term MBA program. So an one-year program appeared in the USA which was concerned skeptically at first, and then other programs began to follow it. It turned out that many students would prefer to study one year in "non-stop" than to prolong the pleasure of studying for two years.
Such schools as Georgia State University and Babson College offer "fast-track" programs. They allow receiving MBA in deadlines «not coming off from manufacture». One minus: for some time students should forget about free evenings and even days off.
There are also "accelerated" MBA programs. Such programs are offered, for example, in Drexel University. The program lasts less than one year, students attend classes every day. On the graduation students receive certificates on completion mini-MBA. The diploma, unfortunately, is not given out.
It is interesting, that top schools back out from traditions very reluctantly. Practically any of them does not offer the accelerated programs. In this connection many people have a question: whether it is real mini-MBA? Skeptics are categorically against it: "small" MBA is impossible to prove valid. During training students hardly have time to pass basic courses and business and do not reach specialization at all. Absence of summer practice also negatively affects skills of the future graduates, therefore recruiters do not prefer mini-MBA holders. On the other hand, positions of graduates in the big companies deny this opinion.
The new accelerated programs cardinally differ from "ancestors" - executive and part-time MBA, which became so much popular, that gradually supersede the traditional full-time programs. New programs also consider demographic and financial distinctions: it is not necessary to make one to move to another country for a long period and to pay rather big money.
However, such situation can reach to the point of irrationality. Rutgers University offers mini-MBA which lasts only 12 weeks. Students study the limited number of disciplines and get the certificate. Cost is also the minimum: only $2,495. The overall objective of this program is to involve students in the full-time program.
So there are a lot of possibilities to get MBA. The main thing is to have a desire and timely preparation.
