Idea of Personal MBA is very simple, and, probably, therefore it is so popular: self-education can be applied in the advanced business education. But in this concept there are many gaps.
We all are clever people, and we know that we can buy all these books which it will be necessary to read for MBA or something similar but why all do not run to shops? And the reason that usual people (in meanung "not geniuses") simply do not possess the necessary abilities for studying of all of this independently. We can honesty study the book, but the result of this lesson will be much more smaller than if we studied it in an audience with teachers and other students. Therefore, probably, all our educational system (not only business schools) from an elementary school to universities work thus already hundreds years.
Self-education is absolutely quite good thing, but it works only at observance of some conditions. First, it works only for such subjects as mathematics, physics or other exact sciences - in general, any knowledge where you do not need to co-operate with other people, and it is necessary to acquire simply concrete theories and to learn them to apply. But any knowledge, which have necessary interaction with other people and experience (and not just books), are not acquired by self-education.
Secondly, yes in these subjects if you are really talented, a teacher is absolutely not necessary to you. But it works only for very gifted people who can study, simply reading a book and to whom nobody is necessary for that explanation, that they do not understand, tests and explanations are not necessary, that they have made a mistake and in what areas it is necessary for them to improve. For usual people, it simply does not work. Sounds fine, but does not work. Personal MBA is not MBA, that's all. |
