«Fundamentally nothing has changed. Corporations still appreciate
diplomas of MBA and are still interested in attraction of experts with
unique knowledge and skills which graduates of business schools
possess, - Dave Wilson, the president of GMAC makes comments. - But
employers in all spheres of economy are waiting and do not hasten with
construction of plans on hiring this year, and those who employs
experts with MBA, they are also compelled to reconsider the programs
under the influence of economic recession».
From 2002 to 2008 the growth of a labour market for experts with MBA was estimated as 10-20 % a year. Meanwhile in 2009 this segment will be not so active. Interrogation of GMAC has shown, that this year employees with MBA are employed by 50 % of the interrogated companies against 59 % of the companies in 2008. The average number of new involved workers with such qualification will make 6 persons on the company in 2009 against 12 in 2008.
The starting salary of graduates of business schools, by estimations, is on 4-6 % lower in comparison with level of 2008.
According to the GMAC review, the average starting salary of graduate MBA makes in $2009 $79,936 against $83,541 in 2008 (in 2007 - $80,452). For the diplomaed experts of bachelor level and the master in the spheres which have been not connected with business, it is a question accordingly about $42,598 and 60,815, in comparison with $46,845 and $55,877 in 2008. Graduates of a magistracy in a field "management" can count on the average on $58,808 a year, in comparison with $62,528 in 2008. In total taking into account the award at an employment and other bonuses the average sum of annual compensation for owners of diploma MBA makes $100992, is informed in review GMAC.
By data for last five years experts GMAC have drawn a conclusion, that in the salary to 40 % it is possible to carry on "extra charge" which gives diploma MBA in comparison with degree of the bachelor (to 25 % of the award to other graduates of a magistracy in business sphere).
Involving for works the graduates of business schools, the companies first of all allocate such qualities as initiative, professionalism and decency (82 %), good communicative skills in written and oral speech (89 %), and also ability to achieve result, to operate and think strategically and key understanding of business (73 %).
During the publication of GMAC review - Corporate Recruiters Survey (since 2002) the peak of employment of graduates MBA has been fixed in 2006 when such experts were hired by 75 % of employers (on the average on 12 persons in the company). Data for 2002 (after a collapse of the "bubble" connected with global recession in the beginning 2000, first of all in Europe and the USA) allow to make interesting comparison of strategy of employers in the market of experts MBA.
As then, and now employers expect, that competitors more will accept willingly offers of job, and hardly probable someone is ready to discuss essentially raised indemnifications. Despite possible reduction of number of trainees, respondents, both in 2002, and in 2009 are more inclined to accept on a permanent job of well proved candidates.
Despite difficult conditions on the labour market, considerable number of graduates MBA could solve a question of employment before end of the program of training. According to GMAC, on the average the owner of diploma MBA has received more than one (1,9) offers from potential employers and can count on salary increase on 66 % on comparison with the former level.
Until recently the financial direction was one of the most popular. Now, by estimations of colleges, the number of offers in this sphere has fallen to 10-50 %. It is reflected on MBA also.
Jana Kierstead, the director of service of employment MBA Harvard Business School, says, that offers became less on 30 % in comparison with last year, among financial institutions falling reaches 40 %.
«The companies searching for employees in campuses, approximately as much, but the number of positions on which they type, was reduced», - makes comments Kierstead.
This year search of work for graduates was uneasy. But very many agree, that financial crisis is not only negative factor. In many cases it has forced to reconsider prospects and values, to find new, more interesting, variants of development of career and to prove oneself. Students have more attentively approached to a choice of a place of work. The companies, from its part, are more opened to the initiative.
David Hsu, the graduate of program MBA of Massachusets technological university (MIT) notices, that in a difficult situation companies search for new ways and are more opened to changes whereas in normal conditions many are afraid of alternative decisions. That is now there is a possibility to show an ingenuity, to carry out innovations, to apply new technologies.
As to the business schools, some experts are assured, that in the conditions of crisis inflow of pupils will grow. So, in Tennessee it is marked wishing to receive the big flow a business education.
Numbers of students are filled up with those who temporarily remained without work or wishes to be more confident the prospects. Besides, yesterday's students of colleges who have preferred to continue their education instead of building career in not the most favorable conditions actively join in process. In this connection at many schools restrictions on an operational experience (usually 3-5 years) have been softened.
As a rule, it is a question of two variants of training - the internal form or internally-correspondence for working experts who receive the diploma within the limits of the program for top-managers - executive MBA. The college of business and technologies (College of Business and Technology) University in East Tennessee fixes growth of number of statements in both directions.
