If English is not your native language, and you wish to enter college or university in the English-speaking country, most likely, you will need to pass TOEFL for receipt in any educational institution. One of parts TOEFL is an essay. If the writing is not your strongest skill, so preparation needs to be carried out and you should pay special attention on preparation for this task before the test, and exclusively language preparation shpuld be made (to repeat grammatical rules to expand a lexicon with new words, expressions, phraseological units, idioms), and to prepare for an essay writing as a whole. Four simple steps will help you to write an essay for TOEFL.


Train with the help of reading literature, newspapers and magazines. Then copy  book or article content in your own words as soon as possible. It will help you to learn to interpret English text and to write about it. It is not necessary to concentrate on fiction because this style is not required to you for an essay, it will concern any social or other moments.

Talk to people speaking English without accent, and write down everything you discussed with them - have something like a diary. You also can write down everything you hear on English-speaking records - for example, audiobooks, films. Thus you will learn to understand better colloquial English faster and more accurately so, you will be able to express your thoughts in this language subsequently.

Independently give yourself themes and write about them - in English, naturally. Essays for TOEFL, as a rule, are calculated on 350-400 words, try not to exceed this limit and during the preparation learn to express the thought compressed, accurately and particularly. Themes can be taken from the textbooks on TOEFL, look through newspapers or magazines about topics of the day, or to think up them independently.

Practise passing training tests. They are in textbooks or on the Internet, on official website TOEFL and in many other places. You should pass not less than two training tests, and it is better  even more. The higher your points on the training test are, the more probability that you will get an excellent result.
